Being kind to the planet can take all sorts of forms, but appreciating what it has to offer and spending time outdoors is always a great place to start! Join this session to hear from people who weave a love of the great outdoors into their day to day lives – from Kerrie Aldridge, who became a two-time marathon runner after searching for a way to improve her health and wellbeing, to Emma Knight who founded a community alliance with environmentalism at its core.
Emma Knight
Emma founded F.A.N Community Alliance in 2008 with a few neighbours to bring people together and rejuvenate community spirit. FAN continuously evolves and is what it’s members make it depending on their interests. It is not an environmental organisation, but Emma is passionate about climate action, and environmentalism now runs through the core. They lead by example and normalise climate conversation and action in an area where there is a genuine lack of understanding and a lot of misinformation.
Kerrie Aldridge
In her own words, Kerrie is ‘a 40 something plus size, short ass Mum turned marathon runner’. She woke up on New Years Day in 2018 unhappy and looked at my son and knew he deserved better. Her goal was to be able to run Race for Life… along the way she found herself and saw the benefits of running for her physical and mental health. She laces up her trainers, gets out there and does it for anyone who has a dream and dares to try. Now when she is met with the ‘I can’t’ demons she pulls up her big girl pants and says “Watch me”. She’s completed 2 London Marathons, and after the first didn’t quite go to plan she managed to change the face of the ‘back of the pack’ runners and has raised thousands for The Miscarriage Association.
Stories from the Stage is your opportunity to hear from brilliant projects and inspirational individuals making positive things happen where they live.
