Join Amit as he shares insights from his life story and answers questions about key transformational moments, telling us about what has helped him get through the most difficult times. This session is all about positivity and resilience so if you’re feeling like you might need a little of that, this is the session for you!
Amit Patel is from Greenwich, London. A former A&E doctor, he lost his sight five years ago, following a catastrophic hemorrhage behind his eyes.
Amit now spends a large proportion of his time with his Guide Dog, Kika, campaigning for inclusion and accessibility, and supporting sight charities including Guide Dogs and the Royal National Institute of Blind People, because he believes ‘in communities and bringing people of all abilities and cultures together. I’d love to prove that even though you have a disability it shouldn’t stop you from doing what you believe in.’
Amit’s first book, Kika & Me was published earlier this year. From the challenges of travelling when blind to becoming a parent for the first time, Kika & Me is the moving, heart-warming and inspirational story of Amit’s sight-loss journey and how one guide dog changed his world.
